Yamazaki Gibraltar Release 2014

nach den letzten hektischen Chichibu Tagen und Wochen möchte ich euch eine Flasche aus dem Hause Yamazaki vorstellen die eine interessante Geschichte der Veröffentlichung hat.

Hi Maltheads, after the last hectic Chichibu days and weeks I would like to present you a bottle from Yamazaki which has an interesting history of publication.

During the War of Spanish Succession in 1704, an English fleet attacked Gibraltar Fortress and has been under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom ever since. In 1713, Spain officially surrendered the fortress in the Peace of Utrecht, but it has been claimed by Spain ever since. An English proverb reads solid as the Rock of Gibraltar and refers to a circumstance or person who, in spite of adverse circumstances, does not perish or cannot be conquered or defeated by any enemy.

Kommen wir aber wieder auf dem Yamazaki zurück. Laut unbestimmten Angaben soll es nur 140 Exemplare dieses sehr seltenen Abfüllungen geben und sie sind nie in den normalen Verkauf gekommen da es rein nur bestimmten Leuten aus dem Unternehmen in den Genuss dieser recht ungewöhnlichen Abfüllung. Ungewöhnlich allein wenn man sich das Edikett anschaut, da es einen schlichten sandfarbenen Hintergrund mit dem Gibraltar Fels und einem Schiff abbildet. Außerdem ist die dazugehörige Box in einem Goldton gehalten und bildet nur das Logo und den Schriftzug des Unternehmens ab. Die Frontseite der Box ist mit einer Klarsichtscheibe ausgestattet so das die Flasche als Eyecatcher direkt zu sehen ist. Einigen Aussagen zufolge könnte es sich mit dem Inhalt um einen 18 jährigen Yamazaki handeln was ich aber hier nicht bestätigen möchte. Deshalb ist mir leider auch nicht bekannt ob er kühlgefiltert oder gefärbt wurde. Aber ich bin sehr froh euch ein Exemplar präsentieren zu können denn das sind die Flaschen die mich immer so faszinieren da sie so einmalig sind und bleiben.

But let's come back on the Yamazaki. According to unspecified information, there are only 140 copies of this very rare bottling and they have never come into normal sale because only certain people from the company can enjoy this quite unusual bottling. Unusual only if you look at the Edikett, as it shows a simple sandy background with the Gibraltar rock and a ship. In addition, the corresponding box is kept in a golden shade and only depicts the logo and the lettering of the company. The front side of the box is equipped with a transparent screen so that the bottle can be seen directly as an eye-catcher. According to some statements the content could be an 18 year old Yamazaki which I don't want to confirm here. That's why I don't know if it was cool filtered or dyed. But I am very glad to be able to present you a copy because these are the bottles which always fascinate me so much because they are and remain so unique.

Aber zurück zu den Key Facts der Yamazaki Gibraltar Commemorerative Bottle

Nase: Trüffel, dicke bittere Marmelade und Harz. Potpourri und schwerer Oloroso-Sherry, leichte Zigarrenblättern

Gaumen: Ein vollmundiger, sehr süßer Gaumen mit etwas bitterer Heidewurzeln, Honig, Toffee, Früchte, Pflaumenwein und schwarzem Pfeffer.  Sehr altes und reifes Bukett das dem Sherry Fass alle Ehre bereitet

Abgang: Langer, fruchtiger, marmorierter Abgang.

Nose: truffle, thick bitter jam and resin. Potpourri and heavy oloroso sherry, light cigar leaves.
Palate: A full-bodied, very sweet palate with somewhat bitter heather roots, honey, toffee, fruit, plum wine and black pepper.  A very old and mature bouquet that is a credit to the sherry barrel.
Finish: Long, fruity, marbled finish.
